And nobody in Oz
No Wizard there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!
No Wizard there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!

So last night my family and I watched "The Great and Powerful Oz". With my sudden interest with Oz made my head spun like crazy. When I unfolded the cinema's audience chair, I can feel the excitement I had inside. I knew I had to find the infamous Elphaba from Wicked. I knew she would appear somehow. Elphaba is the Wicked Witch of the West. I was expecting to encounter her. However, the movie ended and I never heard the name "Elphaba". I heard Theodora, Envora and Glinda. Of course Glinda was there. Glinda's the Good Witch of the South.
Basically, The Great and Powerful Oz is the story on how Oz had a Wizard. I don't want to be a spoiler, so I'll just say that I get the parallelism of plot of The Great and Powerful Oz to the classic, Wizard of Oz. You see, the Wizard of Oz is about Dorothy and the others having an adventure to go to the great wizard because each one of them had a wish. However, when they finally ended up in front of the wizard, they found out that the Wizard can't really grant wishes. That was how The Great and Powerful Oz ended. The Wizard was never really a magical person. He was just this person who's really intelligent. See the parallelism?
I also see the relation of Wicked and the Wizard of Oz. I'm still reading Wicked, I haven't finished it yet. Though I already see the Nessarose, the sister of Elphaba, was the Wicked Witch who was crushed by Dorothy's house. She used to have silver slippers, but then Elphaba made them into ruby slippers. I see that Wicked is the story of the witches of Oz. Glinda, who was formerly called Galinda, was the Good Witch. So we practically see that it is related to the classic.
The question that boggles my mind... Is The Great and Powerful Oz related with Wicked? It was really confusing. I was off my seat when I heard Glinda's name. Glinda was there, so obviously I was waiting for Elphaba. In the begining of the Wizard's journey to Oz, he met this witch named Theodora. It never really made sense to me. Who was Theodora? The Wizard ended up playing with Theodora's feelings. With the Wizard's Grandmother's music box, Theodora fell head over heels for him. Theodora had this sister named Envora. I think. (So is Theodora and Envora Elphaba and Nessarose?) Questions were swimming in my head. If they were the same people, why wasn't Theodora green skinned? Elphaba had this problem when she was born. Theodora ended up broken hearted and wicked. Envora forced her to eat an apple that made her wicked. She turned green, and yes, it does resemble Elphaba. But why a different name? And why isn't Envora wearing ruby slippers? Why was Theodora turned green just then? Or maybe Disney just didn't know how Wicked was also parellel with the Wizard of Oz. Things like this make my head explode. Questions of these random plot containing a classing... But ugh. I want the answers. Maybe Disney just wanted random witches... But why still name the Good Witch of the South "Glinda"?
Well, I'm off to sleep. See you around.
